Anime Detroit 2010 Cosplay Rules


 General Rules:

  • Keep all entries "PG" oriented. Costumes must be worn appropriately and in good taste.
  • No swearing or use of offensive language is permitted
  • All Costumes MUST be from an anime, manga, Asian origin video game or live action anime/manga/video game based franchise
  • Each person may only submit one entry
  • Each entry may only appear on stage once.
  • Entries are limited to 8 members without additional approval
  • At con regisration is available as space permits.

Skit and Performance Rules:

  • No microphones will be provided, all audio must be prerecorded
  • Entries must not exceed 2 mins in length walk-ons no longer than 1.
  • All skits must be cleared by masquerade staff
  • Flash powder, fireworks, lasers, and smoke machines are prohibited.
  • No messy or harmful substances may be used 
  • Do not leave anything on stage that cannot be quickly picked up.

Costume Rules:

  • Costumes and props must have been made by either the contestant wearing the costume, or fellow members of a group entry.
  • Costumes crafted by non-professional family or friends without compensation are permissible for contestants under 18 years of age.
  • No purchased or rental costumes are permitted to compete.
  • Costumes should be self contained and not be constructed with messy substances.
  • Costumes that have won in previous costume contests are discouraged.

Costume Craftsmanship Judging:

  • Any costume being presented for craftsmanship consideration must be prejudged by masquerade staff.
  • All craftsmanship competing costumes must also supply reference material for each costume. Minimum of front and back views of original character(s).
  • Craftsmanship entries must be a minimum of 75% handcrafted by the wearer.

Weapons:

  • Absolutely no live steel is permitted.
  • No live firearms. This includes any weapon capable of firing.
  • weapons such as bokken or other wooded or blunt instruments should be used with extreme caution and not used in any manner that might harm others.
  • It is not permissible to throw anything into the audience at anytime.
